^
^A Pacific [typhoon] or tropical storm is a tropical cyclone that forms in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Nearly one-third of the world's tropical cyclones form within the Western Pacific making this basin the most active. Pacific typhoons have formed year round, with peak months from August to October, corresponding to the Atlantic hurricane seasons. Along with a high storm frequency, this basin also features the most globally intense storms on record. Typhoon occurs in Japan & Phillipines.

^
^Typhoons are caused by tropical depressions forming out to sea. Despite the destruction these storms bring each year, the Japanese considers typhoons a good omen. In 1274 and 1281, typhoons called 'divine wind' or 'kamikaze', thwarted Genghis Khan's grandson Kublai Khan, from invading Japan from China.

^October 22, 1998 - Typhoon Babs (pictured), also called Typhoon Loleng, hit the Philippines 8 days after Typhoon Zeb. Babs killed 221 in the Philippines and caused over $6.5 billion of damages, which prompted a recession in the country.
